Creating a Safe Space for Trans People at Work

 


Transgender individuals experience a wide range of harassment, discrimination, and violence. As such, there is a need for a safe space for trans people. This can be achieved by creating a trans-inclusive workplace and a safe environment in which to engage with trans people.

The safe space should be a place of non-judgment. Trans people should not be referred to as "them," and trans individuals should not be subject to racial slurs or gender-based slurs. Creating a safe space is an ongoing journey, but by giving trans people a voice, you can start to create a safe space.

Creating a safe space for trans employees involves showing that you believe in the community, and you will need time, commitment, and credibility. By empowering trans employees and giving them a voice, you can create a safer space for them in your workplace.

Some places have an online module that discusses the basics of creating a safe learning environment, and how to interact with the LGBT community. Another place to learn more about the basics is through Safe Space Ally Training, which will teach you how to work in solidarity with the trans community.

During this training, you will learn about the basics of gender, the history of trans activism, and the importance of having a trans-inclusive pronoun. Additionally, you will learn about the demographics of the transgender population, as well as issues related to health care. Furthermore, you will be provided with concrete strategies for being an ally to transgender individuals.

If you are looking for a safe space to work in, consider the University of Rochester's Safe Space Program. Designed for employers, this program provides two courses that educate employees on how to create an inclusive environment and reduce their bias against the LGBT community.

Safe Space: Trans 101 is the second step in the Safe Space series of trainings. It is a 2 hour Beyond Compliance certified training that covers the basics of creating a trans-inclusive workplace. To complete the program, you will need to register for the Safe Space Ally Training. During this training, you will receive support from presenters who have completed the Safe Space Ally Training. They will lead the training and answer any questions you may have.
